The Story Behind the Lens
Escaping the deep freeze of a Toronto February in 2010, this moment unfolded along the coastal waters of Tampa, Florida. Captured with a Canon 5D Mark II and EF 17-40mm f/4 lens at 32mm, the composition was dialed in at f/14 and ISO 100 to harness the fading natural light. A deliberate 0.6-second exposure transformed the passing sailboat into a soft, dynamic blur—contrasting the kinetic energy of the vessel against the stillness of the concrete mooring and the radiant warmth of the Gulf sunset.
